Are you dreaming of Venice? The Dream of Venice books are perfect for dreaming, armchair travel, or reliving your visit. All 3 books are filled with stunningly beautiful photographs, complimented with word pictures that really give you a feel for the uniqueness and romance of Venice. Getting lost in one of these books is the next best thing to being there.
Dream of Venice Architecture
Dream of Venice Architecture focuses on the city’s fascinating architecture, from photos of monuments and public places to small details on a house or a building’s interior. I was afraid I’d find the book a little difficult to read as I’m not well-versed in architecture, however it’s written for the general public with descriptions expressing the feel of the place rather than being written in technical terms.

The international group of contributors to Dream of Venice Architecture is made up of architects, some who have lived and even built in Venice, and others architectural writers who marvel at the city’s buildings and atmosphere. They share their personal experiences and reminiscences of Venice, each giving a unique perspective to the beauty and wonders of the city. Documentary filmmaker and photographer Riccardo De Cal, who focuses on architecture and restorations in the Veneto region (the region that includes Venice), took a photo to accompany each essay with spectacular results.

In her essay, architect Anne-Catrin Schultz says, “When approaching Venice, the city always comes into view as a surprise, a little tremor in my perception”. This describes the way I felt as I perused the photos and essays in Dream of Venice Architecture. I felt a sense of surprise and great admiration.

Dream of Venice in Black and White
Venice is the perfect setting for chiaroscuro and the newest book of the Dream in Venice series features stunning photos in black and white. Photos by more than 50 photographers from 10 countries have documented the city for this book, creating a beautiful visual narrative. The introduction by Italian author Tiziana Scarpa is a reflection of his life as a Venetian.
Review Quote: This remarkable anthology, thanks to the wintery season, the tones of black and white and the virtual absence of tourists, offers us the romantic melancholy, the poetry of reflections and the beauty of light that are the magic of Venice. Philip Rylands, Director Emeritus, Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice

Dream of Venice
The first book in the series, Dream of Venice features photos by Charles Christopher and an introduction by Frances Mayes, author of Under the Tuscan Sun: At Home in Italy. Dream of Venice combines photos, both color and black and white, with the creative writings of by well-known writers, actors, artists, and even cookbook author Marcella Hazan. It’s a beautiful combination of photos and words, evoking a real sense of Venice.

Dream of Venice books are the brilliant creation of JoAnn Locktov and Bella Figura Publications. A portion of the book proceeds go to Save Venice and Fondazione Querini Stampalia.
